CU Miss Greek: Meet our Contestant

Included in Greek Week every year for the last seven years, Sigma Pi has the privilege to throw a pageant for all the sororities to raise money for their philanthropy Clinica Family Health Services (clinica.org). This year Theta Beta was represented by the one and only senior Kara Vosburgh.  With poise, intelligence, chapter and Panhellenic spirit on our side, we were bound to do well.

Last night was the 7th Annual Miss Greek Pageant and the lovely Kara Vosburgh took Second Place!  We couldn't be more proud of here and all of her accomplishments.  Honored to call her our sister, here's a little more about Kara:

Name: Kara Vosburgh
Class: Senior
Hometown: San Jose, California

Major: Political Science and Psychology

Extracurricular Activities: Young Life leader
Sorority Positions Held: Chapter Correspondent, Continuing Education Chair, Member Development Chair, Member of the Standards Board, Internal Vice President of Panhellenic

Kara has been an active member of our chapter over the last four years and also had the privilege of serving on our school's Panhellenic Board.  She is a fabulous representation of what a Tri Delta woman should embody in her everyday life. We are humbled to say that she is our sister and so excited that all of her hard work and dedication for this cause paid off for a second place finish! We all worked hard to help Kara with fundraising efforts, doing fun things like selling custom tee shirts and having a senior garage sale.

Look! It's Kara on an eagle:

Kara was asked, what does representing Tri Delta for Miss Greek mean to you?
"I am so glad to represent Tri Delta in the CU Miss Greek Pageant and to raise money for a wonderful cause like Clinica Family Health Services, that serves the Boulder/Denver area. The communities I have been in since coming to CU--Tri Delta, the Panhellenic community, and my Young Life community--have served me so well in becoming the woman I am today. Nothing makes me happier than giving back to the places that have given me so much."

Thank you to Kara for all her dedication and a HUGE thank you to everyone who donated on her behalf.  Our chapter raised nearly 8,000 dollars for Clinica and the Panhellenic community as a whole raised almost 83,000 dollars.

We are all honored to be part of a community that can come together for a great cause.

What has Theta Beta been up to?

We've been super busy here at Theta Beta over the last few months. We've shared some great memories including winning Chapter of the Year at the 2011 CU Greek Awards, dancing all day at CU Dance Marathon 2012, welcoming our Spring New Members from Informal Recruitment with a spectacular hula show, 'Tri'-ing our luck at a Casino Night Mixer with our Greek Week partners, and having our Moms visit Boulder for Mom's Weekend!

We also held our yearly letter writing campaign earlier this month for St. Jude Children's Research hospital! March is St. Jude month and we've been celebrating all month long by showing our "Keep Calm and Fight On" spirit on Facebook, posting fun facts on our Twitter and raising awareness about this amazing cause.

Although our Spring semester has only a month remaining (oh no!) we have many fun events in store for the remaining weeks.  Greek Week is right around the corner and we'll soon be saying goodbye to all of our wonderful graduating seniors!

Deltas Support Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity

Last month, Delta Delta Delta was excited to help with Pi Kappa Phi philanthropy, Push America’s Journey of Hope. This summer, 11 brothers will be riding across the country to raise awareness, empathy, and funds for people with disabilities. The women of Delta Delta Delta, along with many university organizations, are helping the brothers raise money by dining at The Sink, a local restaurant that has generously agreed to donate a percentage of their profit to Pi Kappa Phi. Our chapter raised almost $500 and is ecstatic to be a part of such an uplifting program. We wish the brothers of Pi Kappa Phi the best of luck riding across America this summer.

PR PUSH Week (September 2010)

PR PUSH Week September 2010

PR PUSH stands for Public Relations Push. It's one week out of every month where the girls are given a week of events to attend or things they can do with in the University of Colorado community as well as in the Boulder community.

For the September PR PUSH week Delta Delta Delta worked with American Red Cross and Rush Bowls on The Hill to raise money for the 4 mile fire here in Boulder. The 4 mile fire was a forest fire started September 7th that greatly effected many individuals in the Boulder community.

Rush Bowls a yogurt bowl restaurant on The Hill, where many University of Colorado students live; worked with Delta Delta Delta and American Red Cross to raise money September 22nd -24th. The girls handed out $1 vouchers all over campus for individuals to bring in to RUSH in order for $1 to be donated from every purchase to American Red Cross for the fire.

Here is the event schedule for the PR PUSH week September 20th-24th:

September 20th Monday: Make posters and flyers to hang around the CU campus
September 21st Tuesday: Continue to hang Flyers, but also chalk for the event in classroms or on side walks around campus.
September 22nd Wednesday: Wear Letters, hand out Vouchers on The Hill near Rush and get a Yogurt Bowl if you can!
September 23rd Thursday: Wear Letters, hand out Vouchers on The Hill near Rush and get a Yogurt Bowl if you can!
September 24th Friday: Wear Letters, hand out Vouchers on The Hill near Rush and get a Yogurt Bowl if you can!

Tour of Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children's Hospital

Tour of Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children's Hospital

By: Lisa Weatherbie

In January, a group of chapter members went to Children's Hospital for a tour of the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, the area of the hospital Theta Beta directly supports. It was a great experience to see where the money raised from our fall philanthropy, Pancake Supper, is used. On the floor of the Cancer and Blood Disorders Center, we saw the room that was sponsored by Theta Beta and other Rocky Mountain Tri Deltas. Children's Hospital is truly an amazing facility and we are grateful to be able to help support a place that has such a large impact on children in Colorado!

Delta Delta Delta wins Chi-O Dodgeball

This past weekend the ladies of Delta Delta Delta dominated the Chi Omega Dodgeball tournament. All nine sororities competed in a dodgeball tournament to raise money for the Make a Wish Foundation. As we say losing isn’t a word in the Tri-Delta vocabulary… so we of course had to win!! : )
